1. — Яке увас захоплення?

— I am fond of playing tennis.

— Ви давно граєте в теніс?

— Yes, I have. I began to play tennis when I was ten year old.

— Чи не могли б ви навчити мене грати в теніс?

— I can try. But I must tell you that it is not very easy.

— Я про це знаю. Коли почнемо?

— Днями. Я вам подзвоню, і ми домовимося.

2. — Чи популярний баскетбол в США?

— Yes, very. Basketball is played at schools, colleges and clubs. Both boys and girls

are fond of playing basketball.

— Які ще ігри користуються популярністю?

— Well, baseball and tennis, football and golf are very popular.

— Мені б хотілось подивитись гру в бейсбол. Де це можна зробити?

— They play baseball at the Yankee Stadium in New York and in many other places.

3. — Ви захоплюєтесь підводним плаванням (skin diving)?

— Yes, very. Skin diving is very popular in this country.

— Які ще види спорта популярні?

— Boxing, swimming and skiing are very popular.

— Ви займаєтесь боксом?

— No, I don't. I go swimming and skiing.

— Який збіг! Я теж займаюсь плаванням.

— Swimming is very popular all over the world.

— Саме так.

— You are fond of art, aren't you?

— Yes, I am. I am not very good at painting but I try to go to every art exhibition.

Besides, I've read a lot about Ukrainian painters.

— Do you collect books on painting?

— I wouldn't say so. I've several books on art, but in general I borrow books from

our libraries. Are you fond of art?

—Yes, I am. Besides, I like music, or to be more exact classical music.

— Who is your favorite composer?

— I like Lyatoshinsky, Lysenko, Leontovitch...

— I appreciate your taste. Modest Mussorgsky depicted the most tragic events of

Ukrainian history in his operas. Take his opera “Boris Godunov"...

— I have heard “Boris Godunov" three times. I must admit I enjoyed every minute of it.

— Don't you think that Mussorgsky and Andrey Tarkovsky have very much in

common?

— Do you want to say that Tarkovsky's films and Mussorgsky's operas have very

much in common?

— That's exactly what I mean. Their talents match. Do you agree with me?

— I have never thought about it. Andrey Tarkovsky was really a very gifted person.

It is a pity that his life was very short. Have you seen his films?

— Yes, I have seen all his films. They give much food for thought.

— I believe that each of his films should be seen several times.

— I agree with you here. The more you see such films the better you understand

them.

— Andrey Tarkovsky wanted to stage his own production of “Boris Godunov“. Do

you know that?

— Really?

— I am happy to inform you that his dream has been realized.

— How come?

— “Boris Godunov" has been staged in Kiyv, It is Andrey Tarkovsky's production.

— Sounds interesting. Do you know of the exact date of the first night performance?

— I don't know exactly but it seems to me it took place in April, 1990.
