Text “A”. When you apply for a job, you must submit your resume to the employer. A resume is a summary of your professional experience and education, your strengths and skills. The aim of a resume is to get an interview. If the employer gets interested in your resume, he will invite you to the job interview. So a resume is your "visiting card", your "advertisement", your "key", which opens the door to the interview. A successful resume ought to be honest, precise and laconic. It should be placed between one or two pages. Any resume has compulsory sections ("Summary", "Experience", "Education", "Personal") and additional sections ("Special skills", "Technical profile", "Interests", "Honors and Awards"). You can choose by yourself what to include and what to avoid.

1. What must an applicant describe in a resume?

2. What is the aim of a resume?

3. What sections does a resume consist of?

Text “B”. There are many employers who request a CV (curriculum vitae) instead of a resume. A CV is usually required for top posts, for participation in graduate, academic and professional programs, for employment with international firms or working abroad. What does a CV mean? Oxford Student's Dictionary of Current English gives the explanation of a term "CV (curriculum vitae)": curriculum vitae (Latin) brief written account of one's past history (eg. education, employment), used when applying for a job. The literal translation of a "CV" is a "life history", but in essence the CV is the key to the lock, which opens the door to the post you are applying for.

1. What document do any employers demand an applicant to submit instead of a resume?

2. What Latin words does the term "CV" come from?

3. What positions is a CV required for?

Text “C”. A curriculum vitae is longer (up to 5-6 pages) than the average 1-2 page resume because it provides a greater range of information which can include:

· Professional, vocational or research objective

· Professional licenses or certifications

· Listing of relevant courses to match career or academic objective

· Educational or professional honors and awards

· Scientific or academic research, laboratory experience and related skills

· Description of Thesis or Dissertation, papers written, publications

· Academic or professional presentations

· Extracurricular activities, professional and association membership

· Work experience – paid and volunteer, community involvement

· Technical and specialized skills (computer programming, foreign languages)

· Travel experiences

1. Does a CV or a resume give more information about the applicant?

2. How many pages does a CV usually consist of?

3. What information does a CV provide?

Text “D”. There are two main types of resumes. The chronological resume: The chronological resume is the most widely used type of a resume. It is time based and describes your educational, training and employment history in reverse chronological order. The functional or skill focused resume: This type of a resume is often used by applicants for high-level positions in the company. It focuses on your work functions, skills, results and accomplishments. A functional resume must show that the skills of the applicant match the skills required by the employer. Finally comes a brief and relevant educational history.

1. How does the chronological resume describe an applicant's education and employment?

2. What does the functional resume focus on?

Text “E”. There are some useful hints, which will make your resume (CV) perfect:

· Prioritize your top skills and experiences.

· Avoid jargon and abbreviations.

· Be precise and laconic.

· Print it on a quality white paper (no crazy colors) in an easy-to-read font.

· Make top, bottom, left and right margins at about one inch each.

· Don't write in full sentences. Omit the subject of the sentence.

· Check its spelling. Check its grammar.

1. What font should the resume be printed in?

2. What margins should an applicant keep in his resume?

3. Can an applicant use any professional jargon in his resume?
