(1) TheRussian Federation is the largest states in the world with its area of 17 million square kilometers and the population of 150 million people. It occupies half of Europe and one third of Asia. Russia borders on twelve countries on land.

(2) The country is washed by the seas of three oceans: the Pacific, the Arctic and the Atlantic. Our country is rich in water resources. There are over two millions rivers in Russia. The world’s deepest lake is Lake Baikal, its water has always been the purest in the world.

(3) There are various types of climate on the territory of Russia, from arctic in the north to subtropical in the south.

(4) Russia is very rich in mineral resources: in oil, coal, natural gas, copper, diamonds, gold, nickel.

(5) There is hardly a country in the world with such a breathtaking variety of scenery and vegetation: steppes in the south, plains and forests in the midland, tundra and taiga in the north, highlands and deserts in the east.

(6) Russia is an industrial and agricultural country.

(7) The cultural heritage of Russia is very rich too. The names of Pushkin, Dostoyevsky, Tchaikovsky, Chekhov are known all over the world.

(8) Russia has always played one of the major parts in the world politics. Now the country is facing rather difficult economic situation. But despite it, Russia remains one of the leading countries in the world.
